Raising His VOICE in the Philipine classroom
When raising our children over the years, we have tried to instill in them the values of kindness, love, patience, caring etc. as illustrated in God’s Word, the Bible. As our two little ones have now grown into adults, we have seen their lives molded by God’s Word. I trust this is true in your family as well.
This God @ Work story today, comes from the Philippines:
A number of years ago, the Lord put it in the hearts of some SEND missionaries and Christian workers in Metro Manila, to start a program to teach children and youth, Biblical values in the local school system. This was the beginning of VOICE...
VOICE stands for Values Orientation in Classroom Education. The organization prepares curriculum and provides training for evangelical churches to be able to reach out to their neighboring elementary & high schools. Volunteer teachers from local churches are in nearby classrooms every week (with full permission from the principals) to teach values, using the Bible as a textbook. The church gains a respected presence in the community and this allows the church to follow up these students with special activities, DVBS, camps, student centers, etc outside the classroom.
The small beginnings of a few has been blessed by the Lord and turned into large volunteer organization. Today, VOICE has partnered with about 150 churches and para-church organizations, to teach in about 180 schools to approximately 50,000 students in grades 3-6 and high school. The VOICE program has now spread beyond Manila, to many distant parts of the country.
Here is the latest update from the VOICE offices, where missionaries J & L Leyenaar serve:
It's an exciting time for VOICE, as many Teacher Kits and student packs are being bought by churches far and near for this school year. The first printing of the student packs has run out for four of the modules, and we are scrambling to get new sets printed. Our printers experienced some delay in May because the necessary paper was unavailable. Since churches in far-away places are coming on board, we have the challenge of finding economical & safe ways of shipping the materials. Just this afternoon Jake delivered packages to 2 different bus stations. We are encouraged by many churches who are catching the vision for reaching out to their nearby public schools to introduce students to good values, using the Bible as the textbook. Pray especially for new teachers this school year--it can be daunting to stand before a class of 50-60 students. Our goal for this school year is 2-10 (churches) in 20-10.
God is @ Work all across His world. Pray for the ministry of VOICE as it touches student lives with His message of grace, hope and love from His Word, the Bible.
